Our world around us is made up of layers – layers of life – layers of time, layers of perception…..sky, then sand, then sea. An interior……a room, the window, the garden. One colour upon anther – one brush stroke upon another – one layer upon another.
This collection of works by Ben Winspear have been made drawing on inspirations, the feeling and impressions of the Lon and its surrounds as he seeks to explore some of the layers that surround us both physically and perceptually.
While largely representational - at times his work is found drifting in and out of abstraction – flowing between form and line – shapes morphing into each other, sometimes textured, other times thin and transparent, often suggestive – not always defined. Combining bold layered brush strokes with a skilful intuitive use of colour, beneath the depicted realities he seeks to show us there is perhaps more than we see at first glance in the layers that surround and permeate our lives.
